When does implantation occur? Do you want to know how long after ovulation this very early pregnancy stage happens? You are not alone. Let’s go through the process together.
If you have a 28 day menstrual cycle then ovulation occurs around day 14. Your ripened, mature egg is released from the follicle in to the fallopian tube. The fertilization of the egg, or ovum, happens somewhere along the fallopian tube, and not in the uterus itself.
After the sperm penetrates the egg and becomes fertilized it is referred to as a zygote. The zygote begins dividing itself and growing while traveling along the uterine tube.
By day 5 this group of cells are referred to as a blastocyst. The blastocyst arrives in the uterus cavity and continues to grow.
In cases of artificial insemination, or in vitro, the embryo is introduced in to the uterus directly and not the fallopian tube.
implantation occur
So when does implantation occur? Implantation happens approximately 7 to 10 days after conception. How long does it take?
There is no exact start and end time for this to happen. It is a process that takes anywhere from 1 to 3 days. During this time that embryo is slowly burrowing and planting itself in the blood-rich lining of your womb.
Some women will experience implantation symptoms during this time while others won’t. Those symptoms may range from light or mild cramping, spotting, or bleeding.
This spotting or bleeding is not like your regular menstrual cycle or flow. It is very light in volume. You may only need to wear a pantyliner to catch the flow instead of a full pad.
It also may be as small of an amount of blood that you only see it when you wipe or clean yourself while showering or after using the bathroom.
It is usually bright red in color or a light pinkish. These symptoms usually go away between 24 to 72 hours usually.
These signs are not a confirmation of pregnancy. You will not know for sure if you are pregnant or not until you take a pregnancy test. And don’t worry, only about 35% of women have one or more of these symptoms during implantation.
So although all impregnated women have gone through the stage of implantation, most of them did not know that it was happening. You can still deliver a healthy baby. Read about some other early pregnancy signs before your missed period.
Can implantation bleeding
When does implantation occur and what signs will I have? Can implantation bleeding be heavy, red, dark brown, have clots, last 5 days or a week like a period?
While embedding happens seven to ten days after conception or fertilization, usually these symptoms do not represent the embedding of an embryo.
If you do have an irregular period then you really can’t be totally sure what the discharge is. This part of getting pregnant has been mistaken for a light or early period and it can cause cramps.
But to be sure you could wait at least 5 more days and see if you start having any other symptoms of pregnancy or try taking an at home test.
